What is Doordash?
Covering over 4,000 cities in the United States, Australia, and Canada, Doordash Company is a food delivery firm connecting people with various local restaurants. It offers delivery services to its clients from the restaurants directly to their homes.
It also connects drivers to orders that are made within their vicinity.
It is easy and convenient to work for Doordash as it doesn’t need any special requirement or experience. Any person can apply to work with Doordash by simply signing up using their mobile phone.
What does a Doordash Driver Do?
Dashers (drivers) can plan their schedules and work only at their own time of convenience. This is easily done by turning on the Dasher application on their mobile devices. Immediately they can be connected to restaurants around and start picking the food to deliver to their respective destinations. However, this service is only available in the United States, Canada, and Australia.
Requirements
For any person to start working with Doordash Company, they are required to have specific requirements. These are:
Must be above 18 yearsMust have an insured mode of transport such as a scooter, motorcycle, car, or bicycle. Must have a valid driver’s license numberMust have a social security number. This only applies in the United States.
How to start working with Doordash?
Sign up by using the app, you can sign up and have your own Doordash account. The signing-up option will only be available when there are vacancies. However, in cases when there is a surplus of drivers, new subscribers will be placed on the waiting list and notified when changes become available.
Mode of Transportation Details
The second step requires the driver to fill in their mode of transportation and specify which vehicle they are going to use. Included are the driver’s license state, vehicle insurance, and driver’s license number.
Background Check Consent
Upon provision of the vehicle details, the driver will be prompted to consent to a background check. They will provide their dates of birth and social security number.
Issuing of Activation Kit
In this step, personal information is required. The driver will provide their address for an activation to be sent to their home as soon as they have passed the background check.
An email with a piece of tracking information for the activation kit delivery will also be sent. This can take between 1-4 business days.
Orientation
Doordash orientation can be done either online or in person. There are two main types of Doordash in-person orientations:
Scheduled Orientation– the driver individually selects an office and signs up for a specific orientation session. Open Orientation– the driver chooses an office to go to during the orientation hours.
During the orientation, the driver is required to have a smartphone for downloading the dasher app, a government-issued ID, and a credit or debit card in case they will need dasher gear.
Doordash Payment
If you are working with Doordash Company to deliver food to the customers, then you can expect your payment at the end of the week with direct payment made through the bank account. The payment can easily be monitored in the “Earnings” tab in the Doordash application on your mobile phone.
Averagely drivers can make between $15 and $25 per hour. However, the amount made by each dasher can vary depending on the hours worked, the city one is working from and the various promotions being offered by the restaurants. Eateries with promotions to their customers tend to sell more and as a result, dashers make more deliveries.
To determine your final payment after Doordash takes their share, use the equation:
Base pay (how much of the delivery fee you will receive) + Promotions (city and time-dependent such as during rush hours) + Tips (fully given to Dashers) = Total Earnings.
Skipping Doordash orientation

In this stage, a Doordash employee will go over the job with the dasher and can only take a few minutes.
Doordash orientation can be skipped by ordering the activation kit. This prepares the drivers for the dashing. The company will also send an email for the activation of the dasher app and the registration of the driver’s red card. This is the final step and upon completion, the dasher can start accepting Doordash orders without going through the general overview of the job. (Orientation).
